Nelu Iordache, the businessman who owns the low-cost Blue Air airline and the Romstrade construction company, is planning to expand his business this year by investing in fruit trees and vineyards, and to produce alcoholic beverages.
“In 2006, I began investing in an orchard in Adunatii Copaceni, [Ed. n. south of Bucharest] covering 80 hectares, and where we planted Apple, pear, cherry and plum trees. This investments has cost €4 million to date,” Iordache declared for Business Standard. He added that some €1 million were invested in cold storage. Aside from fruit production, Iordache is interested in planting edible grape vineyards.
The businessman believes that agriculture is a profitable domain in Romania, which has determined him to increasingly focus on this segment.
