The representatives of local fertilizer producers say that a recent government ordinance to allocate less expensive gas to chemical plants and electricity producers is a good decision, albeit insufficient to support their operations, as they still have no buyers for their products.
The government decided to allocate only natural gas produced in Romania to chemical plants and electricity producers from 1 May - 30 September 30, because imported gas is more expensive. The measure is aimed to help these companies weather the economic crisis.
“Sales are still the problem. The decision is a good one, but, unfortunately, it is only temporary. This must be doubled by boosting the domestic market,” according to the President of Chemical and Petrochemical Industry Free Trade Unions, Achille Dutu.
