Romania’s Agriculture Ministry will complete by March next year the design of a new irrigation system, as the existing one is obsolete, Minister Ilie Sarbu said Saturday.
“The current irrigation system is updated, it has Russian pumps made in the 60s and it must be changed, it must be rethought according to surfaces, properties. It is an ample project and its design will take one year,” Sarbu told a press conference.
He said the money might be borrowed from the World Bank or other lenders.
“(…) Unfortunately, only 176,000 hectares are being irrigated in the country, although the available surface tops 500,000 hectares,” Sarbu mentioned.
